Total Loss: Simplified Process for Going Through Your Own Insurance Company

A wise man once said: “Do not take advice from someone who owes you money.” Keep this in mind during your communications with the insurance company.

Step 1: Submit Required Information

Send the following information to Wreck Check Atlanta:

  • Vehicle valuation report from your insurer
  • Photos of accident damage
  • Invoices for aftermarket upgrades or maintenance
  • Payment for service

Step 2: Receive Your Appraisal

We will send you :

  • A complete appraisal report
  • Letter
  • Clear submission instructions

You’ll receive an automatic text message when the email is sent.

Pro Tip 1: If you need a car quickly, email your insurer: “I accept your offer as partial payment but want to dispute the actual cash value through the appraisal clause.” This may prompt them to raise the offer faster.

Pro Tip 2: If you’re financing a new car, ask your insurer to confirm total loss status in writing. Use this to satisfy the dealership’s requirements to release a replacement vehicle.

Step 3: Notify Your Insurance Company

Email the appraisal and letter to your insurance adjuster.

  • Clearly state that you are invoking the appraisal clause.
  • CC Wreck Check Atlanta on the email.
  • Follow up with a phone call to confirm receipt.
  • Reinforce that the appraisal clause has been invoked.

Step 4: Insurance Assigns an Appraiser

Your insurer hires an independent appraiser. They’ll contact Wreck Check Atlanta to begin the process.

Step 5: Agreement Finalized

Most claims are resolved through negotiation. You receive payment, and we send you final instructions for collecting your check.

If an agreement is reached: The insurance company pays the total loss.

Step 6: If No Agreement, an Umpire Is Involved

If the appraisers cannot reach an agreement, an umpire is required.

  • An umpire may be required if the insurer’s appraiser refuses to negotiate.
  • The cost is split 50/50. Your share is approximately $200–$300.
  • The umpire issues a binding decision.
  • Payment is issued accordingly.

For the image’s alt text, I would keep it much shorter because all of the detailed information is provided in the accessible text immediately afterward:

Alt: “Total loss insurance appraisal process infographic showing six steps from submitting required information through appraisal, insurance negotiation, and final payment.”

This is preferable to putting all of the graphic’s text into the alt attribute. The detailed version should be normal HTML content so users can navigate its headings, paragraphs, and lists with assistive technology.
